What is PDRN?
PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) is a repair-focused ingredient made of short DNA fragments, most often derived from salmon. In clinics it is known for injectable "salmon DNA" treatments; in skincare it appears in serums and creams as a gentler, leave-on version. It is prized for hydration, soothing and supporting the skin’s natural renewal - which is why it became the breakout skincare ingredient of 2026.
How PDRN works
PDRN’s DNA fragments are thought to support the skin’s repair pathways and boost hydration, helping skin look plumper, calmer and more bouncy. Topical PDRN in a serum is much milder than the injectable form a dermatologist uses, so think gradual glow and comfort rather than a dramatic overnight change.
Benefits of PDRN
PDRN is intensely hydrating, giving that glassy, bouncy look many people are chasing.
It calms the look of redness and supports a stressed or over-exfoliated barrier.
Helps tired, dull skin look fresher and more even over a few weeks of use.
Unlike strong actives, PDRN is generally well tolerated, even by sensitive skin.
Is PDRN good for your skin type?
Deeply hydrating and plumping - one of the best uses for PDRN.
Soothing and low-irritation, so it usually suits reactive skin.
Supports plumpness and glow, though results are gradual, not dramatic.
Choose a light PDRN serum rather than a rich PDRN cream.
PDRN is soothing and won’t treat acne itself - pair it with your acne routine and patch test.
PDRN vs other ingredients
Retinol resurfaces and targets lines and texture but can irritate. PDRN repairs and hydrates without the irritation. They are complementary - retinol at night, PDRN to soothe and rebuild. If retinol leaves you red, PDRN is a gentler starting point.
Niacinamide evens tone, controls oil and strengthens the barrier; PDRN focuses on hydration and repair. They layer well together and are both gentle, so many routines use both.
Both hydrate, soothe and give glow, and both are gentle. Snail mucin is budget-friendly and famously slippery; PDRN is the newer, more repair-focused ingredient. If you love snail mucin, PDRN is a natural next step.
How to use PDRN
Apply a PDRN serum to clean skin after toner and before heavier creams, in the morning and/or evening. Give it 2-4 weeks of consistent use. Always follow daytime use with SPF - like any renewal-supporting ingredient, protecting your skin is what makes the results last.
Can you combine PDRN with other actives?
- With Vitamin C. Yes. Use vitamin C in the morning to brighten and PDRN to hydrate and repair - they don’t cancel out.
- With Retinol. Yes, and it is a great pairing - PDRN helps buffer the dryness and irritation retinol can cause. Many people apply retinol, then PDRN, at night.
- With acids / exfoliants. Fine - PDRN is soothing, so it is a good follow-up after exfoliating. Just don’t over-exfoliate.
Side effects & safety
Topical PDRN is generally very well tolerated. As with any new product, patch test first. Because most PDRN is salmon-derived, check the source and consult a professional if you have a fish or seafood allergy. This is general information, not medical advice.
